Access to Justice

WOSWA, we believe that justice is a right

At Women Students Mentorship Association (WOSWA), we believe that justice is not a privilege but a right. Our Access to Justice pillar promotes equality, dignity, and safety for women and girls by challenging the systemic barriers that limit grls and women’s rights, voice, and autonomy.
We work to ensure that survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) receive timely, survivor-centered support, while also addressing the root causes of injustice including discrimination, economic exclusion, and unpaid care work.

Our goal is to create environments where every young woman and girl can live free from violence, exercise her bodily autonomy, and participate fully in social, political, and economic life. Our Focus Areas on Access to Justice
GBV Prevention and Response
Women Students Mentorship Association (WOSWA) Access to Justice advocacy focuses on strengthening campus based awareness, advocacy, and referral pathways for survivors of gender based violence (GBV), while promoting accountability and safety across campuses and surrounding communities. Legal Empowerment & Rights Awareness

In collaboration with partners, Women Students Mentorship Association (WOSWA) engages in educating women and students on their legal rights, human rights frameworks, and available justice mechanisms to enhance self-advocacy and confidence.

Unpaid Care Work and the Care Economy

Women Students Mentorship Association (WOSWA) recognizes that unpaid care work forms a critical yet often overlooked foundation of daily life. Within the university setting and other institutions of higher learning, many female students experience the weight of unpaid care responsibilities, from tending to siblings, caring for the elderly family members, supporting households, and caring for their own children alongside the demands of academic life and, in some cases, part-time employment. WOSWA champions for the recognition, reduction, and redistribution of unpaid care work by advocating for policies and systems that value care labor and promote shared responsibility.

Male Allyship for Gender Justice

– Engaging young men and male students as allies in dismantling patriarchal norms, promoting respectful relationships, and taking leadership in ending GBV. WOSWA’s Inclusive dialogues and campus campaigns foster empathy, accountability, and collective responsibility for justice. Peer Support and Solidarity Networks
– Building safe and supportive spaces where female students can share experiences, seek guidance, and access psychosocial and academic support. WOSWA’s peer support networks strengthen resilience, promote healing, and foster sisterhood — so that female students who experience challenges such as GBV, discrimination, or mental health struggles are not in isolation. Campus Safety & Reporting Mechanisms Partnering with universities to develop safe reporting systems, survivor-friendly policies, and gender desks that protect students’ rights and dignity.
